WHAT
WE DO WE SERVE our community in many ways. The
primary emphasis of LIONS clubs is sight and hearing conservation.
We raise funds to support efforts in early detection and treatment of
sight and hearing disorders. We are
also leaders in the fight against TYPE 1 DIABETES (formerly referred to as
JUVENILE DIABETES), one of the major causes of blindness. Locally our club supports college
scholarships for area high school students, eye examinations and glasses for
those who cannot afford them, ACTS, and many other community needs which are
brought to our attention. HOW
WE DO IT WE SERVE actively by raising funds
in the community. We sell refreshments at community events, Christmas Trees,
and solicit donations for our programs. We
also host an annual Night Out with the Potomac Cannons to raise the community's
awareness of the Lions Club. We bring our SIGHT AND HEARING
SCREENING VAN to local schools, libraries, and shopping centers where our
trained members conduct free screenings. WE SERVE in the spirit of
FELLOWSHIP. We hold dinner meetings
twice monthly to discuss the needs of our community.
We also invite civic leaders and volunteers from many different
organizations so we can learn more about other activities in our community, how
they SERVE and how we can help them. WE RECRUIT individuals just like YOU to become LIONS. We ask you to come and SERVE with us to give something back to the community and help others who are so much in NEED.
